Embossing at 400 m/min - Töpfer Kulmbach opts for Questec RQS-V sheeter with integrated embossing unit

German label manufacturer Töpfer Kulmbach GmbH produces labels and flexible packaging for the beverage, food and luxury food industries around the world. Classic products include wet-glue, self-adhesive or wrap-around labels made of film and paper.

Töpfer Kulmbach is constantly investing in new technical equipment and technologies to be prepared for future demands - most recently in an innovative Questec RQS-V sheeter from BW Papersystems.

For the converting of pre-printed wet-glue labels with grammages between 80 and 120 gsm, Töpfer Kulmbach needed additional capacity on the one hand, and increased efficiency was the goal on the other. Several test runs with its own material at BW Papersystems' Hamburg plant and on a sheeter already installed at another customer convinced Töpfer Kulmbach of the 1060 mm wide machine.

In addition to the high cutting and register accuracy and the sheeter’s special sheet transport by air without mechanical contact with the paper, the machine scored particularly well with its high production and embossing speed of up to 400 m/min.

Embossing at such a speed has never been possible before

The Questec RQS-V sheeter for Töpfer Kulmbach, which is scheduled for installation at the end of 2024, will be equipped with an inline embossing station, ensuring precise embossing of the labels at up to 400 m/min. Combined with accurate cutting, this embossing speed will lead to a significant increase in efficiency. A reject gate can be used to selectively eject bad sheets, e.g. with splices. Thanks to its compact design, the system will be easy to integrate into the existing finishing area.
